Make sure your home's address is clearly visible so police, firefighters and paramedics can find you quickly.
Arm your home security system when you are away, and always lock your doors, windows and car doors.
Keep garage doors closed and locked, and make sure pet doors are not an easy way in.
Good outdoor lighting helps. Thieves tend to skip well-lit homes.
Keep your dog on a leash. It's the law.
Leaving the bank? Stay aware, and if you think you are being followed, go to a crowded, well-lit place and call the police. Do not go home.
Solicitors: you are never required to open the door to a stranger. Look through your peephole, and call us right away if someone is looking in windows, testing doors or entering back yards. A "No Soliciting" sign near your front door can help.
Always acknowledge a knock at the door. Burglars check whether anyone is home, especially during the day. Trust your instincts and keep your phone in hand.
Don't let packages sit at the front door. Schedule deliveries for when you are home, ask a neighbor to watch for them, or use in-store pickup.
A reflective yellow vest does not make someone official. If a person or vehicle looks suspicious, please call and let us check it out.
